Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster revealed – 300mph hypercar goes topless

Texas-based Hennessey Performance has revealed its open-top Venom F5 at Monterey Car Week

Eight years after the Venom F5 coupe was first announced, Hennessey Performance has revealed a drop-top Roadster variant at The Quail in Monterey, California. The model will enter production later this year, with just 30 examples to be sold at a price of $3m.

The Venom F5 coupe was designed from the outset to cater to a roofless variant from the beginning, so Hennessey claims that very little in the way of re-engineering was required for the Roadster. Based on the same sub-100kg carbonfibre monocoque as the coupe (manufactured by Silverstone-based Delta Motorsport), its dry weight stands at 1405kg, up only 45kg over the original.

The removable carbonfibre roof panel weighs just 8kg, including its sound insulation and Alcantara lining, and can be installed and removed by one person. When removed, owners can choose to store the panel in either a bespoke Merino wool travel bag or on a custom-made, carbonfibre pedestal.

Aside from the roof, there’s also a new glass engine cover and lightweight forged aluminium wheels, available in a highly polished finish and secured with titanium nuts.

Mechanically though, the Venom F5 Roadster is identical to its coupe counterpart, featuring the same mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre ‘Fury’ V8, producing 1817bhp and 1193lb ft of torque (on E85 fuel). Roadster-specific performance figures are yet to be announced, but expect them to be near-identical to the 3sec 0-62mph time and sub-5sec 0-124mph time of the coupe.

Top speed is yet to be tested, but Hennessey claims the Roadster will exceed 300mph as does the coupe, despite the firm still not having exceeded 270mph in the original Coupe. It will test the Roadster’s high speed capability as ‘production rates level out’, aiming to beat the 265.6mph speed achieved by its Venom GT Spyder in 2016.

The Venom F5 Roadster costs from $3m, a $900,000 increase over the coupe. Just 30 examples will be produced, six more than the coupe, with production commencing before the end of 2022.
